Book Review: Infinite Possibilities-The Art of Living Your Dreams

A review of the New York Times Bestseller by Mike Dooley
Mike Dooley, the author of Infinite Possibilities, is a featured teacher in The Secret book and DVD. According to his bio, he recorded Infinite Possibilities first as an audio program. It was released in 2001 and has remained a best-seller since that time. He sends out "Notes from the Universe" by email 5 days a week to over 350,000 people in 189 countries and he runs the TUTS Adventurers’ Club on the web.
As Mike points out in his book, there have been countless teachers over the ions with the same message in different words with different ways of presenting the ideas. Somewhere, someday each of us will hear exactly what we need to hear, when we need to hear it in a way that “fits” for us. That makes sense when you think about it. Although we are all connected, one in spirit, our human experience is unique. No human being in the universe in all time has ever had the exact same experiences as another, from the time of conception to the time we return to spirit. Seen that way, what we perceive--hear, see, touch, etc. is filtered through that particular unique perspective. I’m glad Mike is presenting it here in his words.
Just prior to the first chapter is this verse: “Know ye not that ye are Gods?” Psalms 82:6, John 10:34. I love that thought. I think of it as I am Divine as a Precious Child of God. I believe that it is the Father’s good pleasure to give to his children.
Mike talks about deep ideas but in a light hearted, cheerful and loving tone. For someone new to these principles he makes these sometimes revolutionary ideas easy to understand with analogy and his life experiences. For anyone who is not new to the ideas, he presents his own unique voice and story to deepen our understanding.
In one section he is telling us about how limiting beliefs can hinder us. One method of discovering what those beliefs are is to simply watch what we are thinking and begin to recognize the patterns. He calls this “Observe and Dismantle”.
The “Bulldoze and Liquefy” method is based on the theory that not all negative beliefs have to be discovered in order for us to move past them. I agree that we can stay so mired in the why’s that we never get to the how’s. Mike’s method here is a form of acting “as if”, or acting ourselves into right thinking.
In Chapter Ten he presents “Tools and Techniques”, some of which are new to me and I’m grateful they were presented here. I particularly like what he calls “Intellectualizing”. With this approach he says to do a sort of written inventory as to all the reasons that you “should” be experiencing the opposite of the challenge you are facing. It’s an interesting exercise which produces a different state of mind to release you from being stuck where you are.
I like Mike’s book. Deep ideas presented with love and humor.
I like Mike’s “Gifts from the Universe Project” and that he is a part of giving back and raising money for many good causes
I like Mile’s Notes from the Universe that says "To find out how much you've truly been blessed with in terms of love, time, energy, talent, joy, abundance, confidence, intelligence, wit, or any other quality, substance, or dispensation... give of them. Then you'll know what boundless really means."-- The Universe
