Lighting is that component in a dcor that further glorifies it. It can add fine lines to a work of art just like an artist adds final strokes to his masterpiece using his tools. Likewise, lighting adds concept and beauty to any dcor. Yet, it would not be wrong to say that illumination is actually a part of dcor. In many cases, it is plainly used as a source of illumination. The very commonly used source is that of fluorescent lighting. It can be used for both outdoor and indoor purposes. Though, every area of a home requires proper lighting, people have their major focus on the interior lighting design.
There are actually two types of illumination. One is the natural source of illumination, for example sunlight, and the next is the artificial source, which uses lamps or candles for illumination. Daylight falls inside the house via windows and skylights. The amount of light that reaches the interior of a room depends on its architecture or design. The proper illumination of an interior using natural light is not only a source of lighting, but it also helps to conserve resources to a great extent. There are different types of lights depending upon their glowing properties and the reason they are used for. The ambient illumination is a kind of all purpose lighting. It's a diffused form of illumination which fills the area and create an overall glow enlightening every thing placed in the room. It could give a calm feel to the place without being too prominent, this type of lighting mixes with the surrounding objects. It can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, recessed or track lights.
Another type of lighting that is purpose-based is task illumination. It's a dense form of illumination which gives focused light to any individual area or task. With this light, you can carryout special tasks such as studies, cooking, sewing, and painting. This kind of lighting could be provided by recessed and track lighting, and compatible lamps. The major reason for this type of lighting is to prevent any kind of distracting glare, as this kind of illumination is meant to help you focus.
Accent lighting is not like the above two as it just lits up a particular part of the room or object to add effect to it. Accenting a painting or sculpture, in this manner further glorifies the object. Bracket lighting could be used to lit up objects. Decorative lighting is somewhat unique from accent lighting as the lighting acts as a design element. Examples of decorative illumination are wrought iron candle stands or a decorative lamp shaped like a peacock. It is not destined to provide a source of illumination but just to provide a decorative element to it.
A place would seem perfect if all these types of illuminations are present in it. However, a person should have this insight to understand the balance he must keep between these types of lighting within a room; it also changes in different rooms. A bedroom, for instance, would have lesser shades of accent lighting as compared to a living room. It's the lighting at the end of the day that adds a warm and welcoming appeal to any room.
