So you want to apply to university in the UK. You have many reasons for this decision. It could be that you want to broaden your horizons. It could also be that you want to start a career in the country, or it could also be that you want to experience their culture while studying.
Whatever your reasons may be, it would be best if you follow these guidelines to prevent hassle when you plan to apply to a university in the UK.
First on the list is to choose your university. Choosing a university is a big decision, since that is where you are going to spend most of your time for a few years. The course that you may take also depends on the university you are going to choose, as not all universities in the UK have the same descriptions in their courses. Also before you decide, make sure that you meet their requirements.
Now that you have found your school of choice and the course that you will take, make sure that you will submit the requirements before the deadline, or you will have to wait for longer before you can apply again. When you finish your application, you just have to wait for the results.
While waiting, try to think about your expenses. It's not cheap when you apply to university in the UK, so think about the money that you would be spending. The tuition alone can cost you a lot. In addition to that, you would have to think about where you would live, the insurances that you will need in case of emergencies, and the money you would allot for your everyday spending for food, transportation, supplies, which are all not cheap in the UK either. This means you would really have to prepare a huge sum before you leave your country.
To help with this, you can try to apply for a Tier-4 visa in the UK, which allows you to work for up to 20 hours a week during term-time, and full-time during holidays. Even if you think that the money you prepare before going to the UK will be more than enough, it still is viable to work part time.
So now that you have your expenses taken care of, you can still do a bit of preparation for other things like learning British language and culture.
Even when you know English, communicating with people in the UK can still be difficult. This is because one particular word in their English might differ in meaning from that of other countries. Take the word “chips” for example. In the United States, chips refer to thinly-sliced fried potatoes, but in the UK, chips are basically what they call their French fries. Even the way the British pronounce their English can be confusing. While they are portrayed in movies as held-back and disciplined, in most cases this is not true; these are only stereotypes so you have to prepare yourself on different kinds of people that you will meet.
