During the early 1950's, baseball players introduced a new hat to their on-field attire: snapback hats. Up intil around 1954, the snapback hat, or adjustable hat, was the official headwear of professional baseball players. The snapback hat is easily distinguishable from other hats as the back of the hat has an opening and is connected by a plastic strap that allows for adjusting. Hat owners can simply adjust the length by snapping the strap into place at different length intervals. Like other baseball hats in the past, these offered protection from sun as well. The snapbacks had gained lots of popularity during this time, but it would not last for too long. In 1954, fitted hats were introduced to the pro baseball league and has since thrived in popularity for decades.

The fitted hats are the most popular style of baseball headwear, but its safe to say that snapback hats still have a strong foothold in popular American culture. During the late 80\'s and early 90\'s, the snapback hat went through quite a revival. Hat manufacturers were introducing new and innovative designs while famous celebrities and athletes were wearing them when appearing in front of the camera. Once the popularity spread in mainstream culture, other sports leagues couldn\'t help to take serous notice of this emerging trend. Other professional sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, NHL and NASCAR were quick to join in and cash in on the additional revenue potential. Eventually, even colleges and universities across the nation added them to their line of apparel. Snapbacks were a great addition to the apparel lines that these leagues and schools already had.

With the many new styles that have come around, consumers have also seen major price fluctuations due to varying degrees of quality and craftsmanship. Manufacturers are offering different materials and styles that can cause the price of a snapback to go from $20 to a little over $100. Some snapbacks are also heavily branded and these branded hats carry a bigger price tag. As manufacturers continue to press for innovation, so will consumer\'s demand for new styles.

It looks like the snapback hats are here to stay. With new styles coming out and more celebrities sporting snapbacks, they should remain a popular hearwear option in the fashion apparel market. Its been a while since they first came out over 60 years ago, but they will not be forgotten any time soon.
