Overview of Dental Implants




Dental implants are a remedial dental treatment devised for the people with missing teeth. Patients suffering from dental diseases and the ones entering into the older years in age experience broken teeth. This ultimately leads to decrease in self confidence levels and increased confinement behavior, particularly at an individual level. The surgical treatment termed - Dental implants; exists as a solution for the problem under consideration.

Depending on the number of teeth and dental implants to be placed, there are three types of dental implants, namely:

Dental Implants replacing single tooth: replaces only single tooth.

Dental Implants replacing multiple teeth: replaces more than one tooth.

Dental Implants replacing complete set of teeth: replaces the complete set of teeth.

Dental implants are actually artificial teeth, made-up of a chemical called ‘Zirconia’. It has a screw like structure that is implanted in the teeth bone and has a crown like area that looks like the crown of an original tooth. Dental implants surgery is done in a way, such that, it replaces the problematic teeth without affecting the adjacent teeth. This helps in providing support to the rest of the original denture and diminishes any possibility of problematic removable dentures.

Technically speaking, dental implants surgery can be done in two ways, depending on the condition of the teeth and age of the patient. Types of dental implants surgery are:

Dental implants done in the bone: involve implant done into the dental bone itself. This is the preferred type of surgery in most of the cases.

Dental implants done on the bone: involve implant done on the dental bone. This is the type of surgery done specifically for the patients having lower height jaw bone.

However, there are certain dental implant problems that the patients may face after getting the implant done. These can be easily managed and taken care of by the dentists, and hence, it is advised that the patients should visit the doctors regularly or as advised after the surgery.

There are specialized dentist, called, ‘Periodontists’; who perform dental implants. Many dental implants clinic inIndia, have been established by the doctors for providing affordable dental implants. The cost of dental implants inIndiais not much, specially compared to the costs incurred in some other countries. Due to this very reason; patients from outsideIndia, plan a visit toIndiaand get the dental implant done while they enjoy their tour inIndia. This phenomenon is popularly known as – Dental Tourism inIndia.
