Top Web Design Fonts




In addition to the 'design' considerations that go into picking the right font for your web design, the primary consideration to make is the 'safety' factor. Safe fonts are those fonts that are most likely to be supported by operating systems. These fonts are pre-installed by the manufacturers as default settings on any computer. If one needs additional fonts, they need to be separately installed.

At the same time, different operating systems may have a different basket of fonts that they chose to pre-install. While developing a web design, it is extremely important that you identify the 'safe fonts' to avoid the risk of you web page presenting itself unattractively or most content not being legible on the users screen.

These safe fonts blindly make it to the top spot of top web design fonts; for its versatility. Yet again, there is a rare possibility of some old computers still not supporting fonts which are considered safe today.

  1. Helvetica: This font is among the most popular web design fonts in the sans-serif category of fonts. A number of popular brands such as Toyota and American Airlines have used this font in their brand name

  2. Arial: While most designers do not prefer this font as much as Helvetica, this font is closer to the Univers type font that Helvetica itself.

  3. Verdana: Custom designed for Microsoft, this font is preferred from a web design perspective because it's easy to read even in small sizes. The nonexistent serifs, loose letter spacing, and wider proportions make it a viable option to use for websites

  4. Georgia: Similar to the Times New Roman, this font was also custom designed for Microsoft. The basic improvement over the conventional Times New Roman being that the font was significantly larger. This makes the font versatile with respect size and is definitely a favorite among web design professionals as against the cliched Times New Roman.

  5. Trebuchet MS: This font was specifically designed for keeping in mind good web design requirements. It is commonly used for big headers on web pages.

 

Remember to use web safe fonts for plain text headers, links and content. You can experiment with fancier fonts in images simply because images appear as it is irrespective of the user's hardware and software capabilities. While undergoing a web design exercise, it is important that you develop an interesting mix of fonts that makes your website attractive as well as legible.
