Golfing is one of my favorite sports, and I'm always looking for new ways to improve my game. After doing a bit a research online I found a video by Golf Swing Guru that describes the four keys to a better golf swing. In order to really improve your game you must understand these four tips. So without further ado, let's get started.
In order to increase the distance and the accuracy of your shots you must understand how power is derived during your swing. The first part you must focus on is the wrist hinge. This refers to allowing your wrist to follow through with the hit in order to keep the ball on track down the center of the fairway.
Next, be sure to keep your shoulders relaxed as you go through the full range of the swing. I had a hard time with this when I first started since I always thought that in order to hit the ball far you had to tense up your muscles. This is actually the opposite of the truth. What you should really be focusing on is taking a relaxed approach to the swing in order to keep the club lined up properly.
The third aspect of your swing that you need to focus on is the lower body rotation. In order to hit a straight, long shot you'll need to make a fluid movement in your transition from the back swing to the front. Be sure to look at the video at the end of this page for a visual description of this part.
The final important aspect of your swing is the weight shift. As you pull the club back to begin your swing you should be shifting your weight on to your back foot. As you bring the club forward your weight should move from your back foot to the front foot. By the time you finish the full follow through of your shot most of your weight should be on your front foot.
If you'd like to see visual demonstrations of these tips be sure to check out the video right below this text. There is also a golf drill near the end of the video called "The L Drill". This drill will help you dramatically improve your shot in a short period of time.
