How to Make a Volcano for School

Volcanos are magnificent wonders of nature that have been spewing lava since the day the earth was created. The magnificent power of a volcano is something that many of us were amazed by as children, and still are as adults. Back when I was in grade school I made several volcanos as science projects with my classmates in hopes of replicating this power...on a much smaller scale, of course! If you're interested in doing the same thing, I'd like to share some information that will help you make the best volcano possible. The volcano that you're going to learn to make has a few additions to it that I never thought to use when I was younger. The first addition is a bottle that will be hidden underneath the body of the volcano. Having a bottle under the volcano will allow you to quickly replace the baking soda and vinegar mixture that you'll be using to create the eruption effect. This will make it easy to do multiple eruptions without having to waste time trying to clean out the inside of the volcano. If you're going to demonstrate your project at a science fare, it's important that you be able to perform multiple eruptions for your spectators. The second addition is a rounded, bowl-shaped base. This base will surround the volcano on all sides. The reason for the bowl shape is that it allows you to capture all of the "lava" that comes out of the volcano rather than having it run all over the place. This will make cleanup very easy and it will allow you to demonstrate the volcano anywhere, even in your living room at home. I'm not sure why, but I never thought of building a bowl shape around my volcanos when I was younger...I guess I wasn't a very good designer back then. ha! The third addition is a diagram that you can add to the back of your volcano that will show your spectators how a volcano works. This part is optional, but it will definitely get you some bonus points from your teachers! Check out the video below for the full, step-by-step instructions. Hope you enjoy!
