Autism is a very intricate ailment that is often recognized in early childhood. Many people think autism is occurring more and more, with an increasing number of children being pinpointed with it now than ever in the past. What are the root causes of autism? Unluckily, there is no easy answer to this, as it seems that many things contribute to this disease. Up until now, there is a lot of research on this matter and we can at minimum review some of the probably roots of autism. One such cause that is quite controversial and still widely debated is the possibility that vaccines cause autism. In recent years there has been a rise in autism and some believe that certain vaccines containing a mercury compound called thiomersal are responsible for this. Mainstream scientists maintain that there is no evidence to support this belief. Health professionals in the alternative medicine community still hold to the belief though that vaccines for young children increases the risk of autism. No matter your view on this hotly debated issues, it has yet to been proven conclusively for either side. Another common belief is that having children when the parents are older could be a cause of autism. There is evidence to support that the age of the mother is relevant in whether a child will have autism or not. To a lesser degree the father's age can also play a factor. Autism diagnosis has increased in recent years and this can be explained by the fact that parents are waiting longer to have children. Wealthier nations or nations that are developed, show this trend more than others. This is only one possible cause of autism, as many young parents also give birth to autistic children, and the majority of children born to older parents are not autistic. In many studies it has been shown that the risk for having a child with autism is greater the older the parents are. There are several potential bases of autism. One of the not so well known thoughts, but one that still has warrant is that television could be a trigger or contributing force for autism. Many parents have their really young children, even their babies, set in front of the television for hours on end. The definitive effects of glaring at a TV for a huge time period, particularly among the very young, are not totally understood, however it does tend to cause a trance like state. Some studies imply that overexposure to television, DVD, or a computer screen, specifically in children below three years old, could make autism happen. Since there are so many types of autism, it is easier to believe that there are multiple causes. At the end of the day, before we can say for sure what causes autism, more research needs to be conducted. It seems likely that autism has many causes, including genetics and environmental toxins. Autism is believed by many scientists to be cause by these factors listed here.
