Whilst most people own a desktop an ever increasing number are looking at the laptops that are available but feel they do not understand which one is suitable for them. They do wonder exactly how a small machine is capable of doing so much and fear they do not get one that is powerful enough so here are some tips on selecting the right laptop for you.
To start with you are probably buying one because of its portability so you are going to have to pay attention to the battery. You are going to need one which offers as long as possible when working at full settings to lessen the chances of it cutting out on you whilst you are working on it.
It is also important to think about the size of the screen that you need. Laptops come with varying sizes of screens and usually the smaller the screen the cheaper the machine but to save you straining your eyes you should be looking at the twelve inch screen as the smallest you should go.
The hard drive is of course the way that information can be stored on your computer so you do get differing sizes on a laptop with the bigger the drive the higher the price. However, do remember that you can easily attach an external hard drive to the laptop via a port so look at how cheap one of those are and compare the price for a laptop of that size.
Clearly you have to also think about the processor but in a laptop this is not any different to that which you find in your desktop computer. They are installed the same way so if you know the speed of the processor in your desktop just look for the same in the laptop.
It is important just to check that it comes with a modem installed to make it easier for you to connect to the internet whilst travelling. While most of them do have one, perhaps excluding the cheapest of laptops, it is worth your while just having it confirmed.
You need to know that you are going to get some sound out of new machine so before you buy make sure it has a decent sound card. A lot of computer stores shall have one set up and running so you can experiment with it before you even think about spending out any money so see what it sounds like.
Finally one of the things about the laptop you buy is that you are going to need it to be light. The last thing you want is to be carrying a heavy machine around with you all day so look at the weight on the details before you buy. Most modern laptops are built to be as light as possible but this does not take away from what they are able to do.
